Kyliptix (Cloud CRM) becomes small business of the year

Kyliptix Solutions Inc. in Irvine has been named small business of the year for the Orange County Small Business Conference and Expo. The 9-year-old company that supplies Web-based software for running small to mid-sized businesses is a small business itself, with about 10 employees. William Gast, who started the company in his home when he was 27, says having the right foundation and technology were important keys that started Kyliptix on the right path to success.

How does Kyliptix help small businesses?

The Internet has been positive for small businesses on one level, helping them serve their customer base, but on another level the Internet has been a dagger in the side. A competitor can be in India or Sweden, identify your customers and sell to them, maybe at a better price. It’s a huge concern. Small businesses need better tools to protect their customers.

Previously small businesses were severely limited in their software choices because the vast majority of software vendors focused only on the needs of larger corporations. We realized that small businesses required the same functionality.

We came up with a single Web-based platform - software as a service - from which all the applications could work and that small business can afford.

What kinds of applications?

One module is for sales forces: managing leads and contacts. We can track (work requests) for help desks. We manage documents, a central repository for all a business’ documents that can be accessed from anywhere, yet secure. We do embedded e-mail so that a business can have a running history of all discussions with a customer all in one place. Our human resources management is in beta testing right now to track applications, manage employees, their reviews, vacation etc.

Eventually we’ll have nine or 10 applications that small businesses can choose a la cart and have the same look and feel with each one.

How does Kyliptix decide which applications to develop?

We let customers drive development. Many software companies will introduce version 2.0 and then over the next year come out with 2.5 and 3.0 and 4.0. We’re different. We have one version and when we have a new function, we release it. If a customer wants something, we evaluate whether that’s something a lot of companies can use and if we decide to develop it, it might take three days or three weeks. But when it’s ready, it’s released.
